How to have your own Nostr account?
Download a Client
Generally, a Client in Nostr is just the app that you use to access and interact with the protocol. You can always switch clients or sign into as many clients as you want.

Create a Nostr account
You don't need to use your personal data to set up. You just need a public and private key pair.
- A public key: Act as your username. This key can be shared and will be public to everyone.
- A private key: Act as your password. The name implies that you should keep it confidential.
Additionally, this key will provide you access to your account on any platform that runs on nostr.
Setup your Nostr profile
It will be familiar like other social media website. Most clients will provide you the following fields
- Name – This is your @handle
- About – A 150-character limited field to describe your profile
- Profile picture*
- Banner image* - Provided by certain clients
- NIP05 Identification handle - A NIP 05 verification is a unique handle that you can assign to your
- Nostr account using a registered website/domain.
- Lightning Address
- Website – Provided by certain clients
*We recommend using nostr.build to get the image link. Once you have the image uploaded, grab the image link, copy and paste the link to the field.
Choose your Relays
When you sign up to Nostr, the client may have default public relays for you to follow and broadcast posts. However, to avoid spam, it's recommended to use at least one paid relay for better content circulation.You can look for a list of relays in nostr.watch.
To add a relay to your Nostr client, go to the settings page, select the relay option, and paste the URL (e.g. wss://nostr.relay.example).
